Anatomy of a Miracle

A Poem by Kathleen Rossi © 2026

New life on an ancient page

the coffin bone pressing down.

There it stayed buried for three days;

death would make no sound

Four feet on a trip to take

news that would bring the light.

What was once cold and dead

now steadily breathing life.

Heels compressed, a soul distressed

what would good news mean?

If the ground can’t hold a coffin,

that meant there’s a risen King.

Like faithful dawn it rose again

first a breakthrough then break-over.

Suddenly cadence heard again

hoof beats; a musical chorus.

Fresh wind in a horses mane

his neck now stretching out.

Once suffocated, now circulates

his gait does spring about!

Hear it, see it, now it comes

manifests what blind eyes saw.

Behold; His promise never fails

All Glory sings of The Lord.

A Miracle takes steps

The ‘big bang theory’ is convenient to believe, despite how much science surrounds the idea, it negates one key component – the author of the story.

I wrote the poem Anatomy of a Miracle in reflection of the moments after Christ’s resurrection, being a manifestation of what has been echoed through history all along: The miracle of life to death to life. The reality that things don’t just happen. The truth is: that miracles take steps.

The art piece is a concept I had commissioned with a graphic designer in 2020.

The bones in the picture are anatomically accurate depictions of the equine distal limb. Ol’ rotten horse feet. (Except these aren’t rotten, I actually dissected and preserved this myself as a part of a hoof trimming clinic – I digress). The bones symbolize going from death to life. The very name of the ‘coffin bone’ implies it’s meant to be in, and stay in the ground. But when we look at the locomotion of a horse…the hoof goes into the ground and comes right back up… goes in the ground and comes right back up.

Christ went into the ground, and came right back up.

The poem reflects Mary Magdalene first sharing the news to the other disciples that indeed…the tomb was empty. Then, four more feet went running to confirm the news (Peter & John); and the rest is history. Or future…. However you want to look at it is up to you.

Figure 1. WALL

Indeed the Lord, a hedge of protection around our souls. Our way of going surrounded by him. We trod over dry ground, a wall of water on each side. Safely we abide in Him, under the shelter of His wings.

Figure 2. Bones

His strength in divine design breathed into the ground to manifest like a strong pillar. His truth supports our life. Grounded in it, stacked up tall, in alignment, and joined to Him – held together in all things. We are built, sustained and propelled by Him alone.

Figure 3. Frog & Sole

Fully rely on God. Press into His promise that beauty comes from ashes.  Spring up speedily in the healing He provides. Be secure that His goodness and mercy follow us. Know He carries the load. So therefore, because of Him we go protected and lead with praise. Each stride gaining ground and claiming territory, new life in Jesus name. He has saved the lame, the dawn breaks, shadows fade, it is now a Kingdom agenda.
